The Chennai Egmore – Nagercoil Junction Vande Bharat Express is India's upcoming Vande Bharat Express train, which will run across the state of Tamil Nadu, by connecting the metropolitan city of Chennai and terminating at the Temple of Nagas town, Nagercoil.[1][2] This express train was slated to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Chennai Central on June 20, 2024,[3] but has been postponed due to administrative reasons. The new date for the inauguration of this express train will be informed later.[4]
Overview
This train will be operated by Indian Railways, connecting Chennai Egmore and Nagercoil Junction. It will be operated on a 6 days a week basis.[5][6][7]
Rakes
It will be the upcoming 2nd Generation Mini Vande Bharat 2.0 Express train which will be designed and manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory at Perambur, Chennai under the Make in India Initiative.[8]
Service
The Chennai Egmore-Nagercoil Junction Vande Bharat Express will operate 6 days a week, covering a distance of 724 km (450 mi) in a travel time of 08 hrs 45 mins with average speed of 82 km/h. The Maximum Permissible Speed (MPS) will be confirmed after commercial run.
